The importance of Bonampak lies in the murals which cover the walls of the three rooms of Structure 1. These murals are of outstanding value as works of art and sources of information of Maya life. A tentative interpretation of scenes is offered more with the purpose of stimulating discussion and research than as being definitive. Copies have been drawn of the murals to better reproduce their appearance due to the shortcomings of photography.
