Abstract
The methods and conditions of the manufacture of historic wind instruments is recreated. The methods of the old makers are used to restore instruments as thoroughly as possible to playing condition. Early nineteenth century woodwinds have the same basic designs as those of the eighteenth century. Before cleaning, the instrument is stripped of keys, lapping, and any loose mounts or rusted iron parts. Flute corks are removed. All fittings are preserved, even if they are later replaced.
