Abstract
This report examines the use of ethylene oxide as a fumigant for transportation equipment and facilities. A brief overview of pest control and fumigation practices is presented for each of six sites: aircraft, buses, railroad passenger and freight cars, ship holds and trucks. For sites where the use of ethylene oxide is determined, treatment rates and annual consumption are estimated and possible alternative to its use are identified. In addition, an examination of the benefits of ethylene oxide as a fumigant for transportation facilities is presented and possible cost impacts to users which may be attributed EPA cancellation of registration or qualified re-registration of ethylene oxide are considered.
