The Seminar of the Application of Science in Examination of Works of Art
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate a select group of 124 specimens of metallic threads from textiles in the Indianapolis Museum of Art in regard to construction and metallic composition, using a combination of optical microscopy, atomic emission spectrography, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with x-ray. The significance of the data is discussed: the range of colors within the percentage values of the metals; and use of particular materials within the context of cultural and time period factors. -- AATA
