Abstract
Finishes and furniture have both to be fit for purpose and also suitable for the fashion and market place of the time. The Furniture Industry Research Assoication (FIRA) has worked with paintmakers and furniture manufacturers for over a quarter of a century. FIRA's work in testing, research and consultancy is described and the state of the art commented upon.
