Abstract
60 sherds of the Neolithic stations Buraäschisse-South, - North, and - Southwest have been examined with petrographic methods, by X-rays and infrared spectroscopy. The matrix of the sherds is a silicatic one and contains coarse and angular temper fragments of granitic to granodiorite composition. The temper content varies between 15-27 vol. per thousand. Illite was found in the matrix. One sherd has no temper and its matrix is composed of illite, chlorite and and expandable mixed layer. Two sherds have a carbonatic matrix. The sherds are mostly of local manufacture as inferred from the surrounding geological situation. The firing was made under reducing condititons, with an oxidizing cooling phase. The temperatures were probably around 450-500°C. The formation of clay minerals in the body of the sherds during the burial is probable.
