Abstract
Rapid desizing of poly(vinyl alcohol) from polyester materials can be achieved by using a peroxide/caustic soda combination at elevated temperature. A considerable amount of depolymerization takes place in the poly(vinyl alcohol) due to the rapid decomposition of peroxide, increasing the ease of solvation and facilitating its removal. Laboratory tests indicate that considerable savings of time and equipment and the elimination of the need for intermediate steaming may be attained by the use of the process. -- AATA
