Changes observed in the elastic modulus of a single hair fiber through-out the entire relative humidity from 0-100% after treatment with dilute hydrochloric acid are reported. The results are compared with those for hair treated with water and the differences are discussed in terms of the breakdown of salt linkages and other possible mechanisms. -- AATA
