The author gives an account of the practical work performed at the Ethnographic Museum, Budapest, with emphasis on fur conservation, unfortunately rarely treated in technical literature. He emphasizes the necessity of collaboration between artisans, scientist and museologists. Typical descriptions of deterioration of leather and fur are presented. Prevention measures previously used seem to have harmful effects. Cleaning, conservation, completion as well as storing/exhibition practice are described, as done in the museum. Attention is drawn to negative factors such as lack of equipment and instruments for analysis. The author concludes that the methodological, moral and aesthetic principles observed at the museum are generally adequate. -- AATA
