Abstract
The Dresden Museum of Ethnography has some 250 silhouette-figures in its collection, mainly obtained in the 19th century. The parchment base of the Wayang figures is painted and gilded. Analysis of the figures identified the binding medium as well as the painting materials. The author describes several methods for the conservation and restoration of the figures. So far, 20 pieces of the collection have been restored. The iconography of the Wayang figures is discussed, as well as criteria for proper storage and treatment. -- AATA
