Abstract
Wallpapers made of leather, pressed and gilded, have been known in Europe since the 15th century, mainly in Spain and Flanders. The author gives a short survey of the technology of leather wallpaper manufacture. Restoration practice of these objects in the sixties used mainly different oils, and did not take into consideration the special characteristics of leather. More attention should be paid to control the optimal fat content of leather. Special problems arise when restoring wallpapers, since the object to restore is not simply leather, but a gilded and painted art object. -- AATA
