A special method of leather treatment enabled the author to bypass physico-chemical analytical methods. This was necessary because the museum could not implement these more costly and sophisticated methods. The leather samples were treated with a solution of sorbitol and glycerol, and the effect on the leather was carefully checked. A treatment of 10% sorbitol gave the best results on leather with a very low degree of chemical damage: 30% glycerol proved to be effective in case of seriously damaged leather objects. -- AATA
