Abstract
The impregnation of waterlogged leather objects followed by lyophilization is an important means for conserving them. To achieve better results, it is necessary to have absolutely control over the conditions of intervention. After an impregnation by PEG 400, during a period of six weeks and using -80° C temperature, there must be controlled conditions for stabilization in fresh air at 55% relative humidity, and 21° C. The concentration of PEG solution and the length of impregnation might influence the results. The treatment was applied to leather objects of a wide range of archaeological and historical age. -- AATA
