The working effects with chisel and bushhammer on Candoglia marble (the marble used in the Milan cathedral) are evaluated. The chisel makes a great quantity of powdered material: the bushhammer, on the contrary, removes a great quantity of material. The breaking of calcite crystals, during the working, increases porosity. SEM examinations and physical parameters confirm the damage made by the chisel.
