The appendix contains the results of qualitative tests on a sample of patina from this mechanism by E.R. Caley and reports by C.S. Smith of the results of a spectrographic analysis and a metallographic examination of small fragments of metal. This was found to be a simple tin bronze that had been subjected to intensive cold work. The appendix also contains a note by C. Karakalos on the details of the procedure employed in studying the details of this mechanism by radiography. -- AATA
