Failure of a contract maritime archaeologist to properly conserve shipwreck materials recovered from the wreck of the Diana (1817) initiated prosecution of the claimant by the Government of Malaysia. The contract included site documentation, recovery and conservation of the cargo and related artefacts, prior to artefact distribution. A new desalination mechanism for removal of salts from chemically treated and dried ceramics has been reported.
