Abstract
Many conferences of conservators have produced different approaches to and possibilities for preservation of traditional architecture. The most frequent attitude has been that the examples of traditional architecture should be preserved in situ and that the style and urban situation should be taken into account. Such preservation requires as a precondition a study of the economic potential of the region, its potential for tourism, and an evaluation of the condition of specimens (including the risks of short-term and long-term preservation). Another possibility is transportation of buildings to so called ethnoparks (Brazovica, Jarun, Pionirski grad, Maksimir, Gluhakovo) or creation of new, small settlements in the vicinity of rivers (the Sava, Kupa, Odra) or on hills (Prigorje, Vukomericke gorice etc.), depending on zoning and other regulations. One novel approach is the idea of subsidizing living in the traditionally built houses which could then attract vacationers and tourists and thus bring prosperity to individuals and community. -- AATA
