A densitometric technique was developed to evaluate changes in carpet appearance. The method based an assessment of textural changes in carpet on the changes in light reflection patterns. Densitometry appears to be effective in detecting differences in tuft separation and tuft definition, which are quantitatively related to carpet appearance. -- AATA
