Simulated degradation tests showed major changes in the stability of polyethylene terephthalate fiber filters after only three weeks of treatment. It was noted that noxious gases with an excess of water may create an acid medium which, if facilitated by high temperature, would result in acid catalyzed hydrolytic degradation of polyester. -- AATA
