Abstract
In 1972, a rusted iron sword was found at the Inariyama burial mound, Gyoda, Saitama prefecture. The rust was analyzed by a computer-aided microanalyzer and microfused x-ray diffraction, making it possible to assess the original ore, the carbon content, the heat treatment, hardness, and iron metallurgy. -- AATA
