The beginning of the Scalamandré textile industry was the re-creation of Renaissance patterns in textiles. The firm has continued to use old-style Jacquard looms, most of which are hand-operated, in order to maintain historical accuracy in the reproduction of old textiles. For special orders, looms have been built for the specific work. The current factory conveys the feel of a workshop of a Renaissance guild. Upholstery, draperies, carpets, and wall coverings are produced for historic houses and museums throughout the United States and Europe.
