Abstract
This data sheet discusses origins, properties and health hazards of organic, inorganic and synthetic dyes and pigments to which conservators and other museum personnel may be exposed. Topics include: researching and identifying colorants, hazards of dyes by class,(acid, azoic or naphthol, basic, direct, disperse, fiber-reactive, food, vat, all-purpose or union); benzidine congener dyes; mordants and dye-assisting chemicals; inhalation hazards of pre-mixed paints and inks and precautions with colorant containing products.
