Abstract
The use of wood in India is reviewed and early examples of use are cited. Properties of wood which make it susceptible to deterioration and the defects found in wooden artifacts as a result are described. Conservation techniques used in the National Museum laboratory in New Delhi are briefly discussed. Fumigation, cleaning, consolidation, restoration, and repairs are summarized.
