Abstract
Analysis of both style and technique of execution indicates that the Louvre Annunciation and the Houston Virgin are works of great quality but painted by students who had assimilated the master's manner perfectly, transcribing it in a simplified and innovative manner (schematization of underdrawing and pictorial structure, looser execution, generalized use of lead white in highlights, use of color in the shadows, etc.). In addition, a study of the underdrawing of the Houston Virgin (partially rendered by pouncing) denotes an eclectic manner, mixing elements borrowed from Van der Weyden with personal innovation. Both panels were executed between 1460 and 1470. -- AATA
