The restoration of wallpaintings dating from about AD 1000 at Reichenau-Oberzell led to a discussion about the treatment of objects which had been restored frequently during earlier periods. After a critical examiniation of the remaining original parts and the alteration of the materials used for the original painting and the restored parts, it was decided to preserve the wallpainting at its state of 1892, when it was partially reconstructed and thoroughly restored.
