Abstract
Restoration of the rediscovered Martyrdom of S. Lambert (S. Lambert, Woluwe-Saint Lambert) afforded an opportunity for study. Attention is drawn to its early date-1617-which makes it one of the first Caravaggesque pictures painted in the Netherlands. Relationships with Terbruggen are indicated, but particularly with Cecco del Caravaggio, with whom Van Loon has a definite connection and whom he could have met in Rome. Includes a note by D. Pierot on the condition and restoration of the painting.
