Abstract
A short review of infrared (IR) spectrometric techniques is presented which emphasizes sample preparation. The newer method of Fourier Transform infrared microscopy (FTIR) is summarized and compared with conventional IR. A description of the FTIR microscope is given and the advantages of this technique are reviewed. Examples are presented of applications to conservation science and possibilities for future work are discussed.
