Abstract
Study of Picasso's Visit (Two Sisters) in the Hermitage, Leningrad. Several of Picasso's alterations and overpaintings have been revealed by the examination of the picture underx-rays and in infrared light. These help to trace the evolution of the picture in the process of work. Originally the two women in the painting were shown holding hands, and standing under an arch: the figure on the left was sketched in naked or half-naked. The changes made by the artist before he arrived at the final version were of a conceptual as well as purely pictorial or compositional nature. -- AATA
