Abstract
The article discusses the enormous importance of the discoveries made on the Haft Tepe in the low lands of Khuzistan. These discoveries are pretty much of one time period and cover more details of the Elamite culture, which is in contrast to the famous digs at Susa which yielded more of a cross section of all time periods. The reason it is valuable is that 2000 BC is one of the darker ages even of Babylon and now one can recreate this culture with its influences from outside and inside much better. These digs began under the Imperial Iranian Art and Culture Ministry in 1966. Describes what has been discovered so far: the dimensions of the uncovered area, the building remains, the religious or public purposes they were built for, and all during a period of 100 to 200 years. This prime time of Haft Tepe was in appr. 1500 BC. Describes the building materials used, the monuments, sculptures and other artifacts used, such as jewelry. It extensively describes the tombs unearthed and in which conditions they were found. Sculptures of women, reminiscent of the goddess Ishtar are mentioned and other finds made of bronze such as weapons and tools. Animal figures were also among the discoveries. In 1974, a museum was opened in Haft Tepe that houses all the treasures found at the site.
