Abstract
Research during the year involved one graduate student, one summer intern and two principal investigators. Studies during this time concentrated on (1) selecting a test fabric, (2) developing test methods to evaluate fabric degradation (strength loss and amino-nitrogen concentration), (3) selecting accelerated heat and light aging conditions, (4) developing a test method to determine the presence of weighting agents on silk, and (5) developing procedures for applying and evaluating the effect of anti-oxidants and ultraviolet light absorbers on stabilizing silk to degradation by heat and light. The results of items (1)-(4) were reported in detail in the three earlier interim reports.
