Research activities during the report period (January 1-March 31, 1978) involved three graduate students and concentrated on: (1) prevention of deterioration through treatment of cotton textiles with deacidifying agents, (2) consolidation experiments applying acrylic resins and dimethyldichlorosilane utilizing a new, more gentle technique than used previously, and (3) characterization of degraded cotton textiles via moisture regain, alkali solubility, and yellowing.
