Abstract
Stain resistance of Cu requires the formation of insoluble complexes, such as those that can be formed with compounds containing the triazole ring. Of the compounds tested, benzotriazole gave the best protection against atmospheric oxidation. Alcoholic naphthotriazole solutions gave comparable results but costlier. The aqueous solutions of the same were not as good; 1, 2, 4-triazole had a negative effect. Curves showing thermal stability and differential thermal analysis as well as rates of oxidation at different temperatures are given for each of the compounds tried. -- AATA
