Deals with the natural processes and chemical degradation products originating from weathering of native pyrite. Explains the presence of the whole range of weathering products and their preservation owing to the cold and arid arctic climate. Upwards from unaffected pyrite, the profile goes through 1) melanterite, 2) roemerite, 3) rozenite, and 4) limonite. This limonite, in consequence of surrounding dolomite, has further led to the occurrence of such minerals as 5) fibroferrite, 6) gypsum, and 7) copiapite.
