Abstract
Empirical tests are presented that highlight the dangers of attempting to cross-date short samples. Computer cross-dating of short samples frequently produces either no results or erroneous results. The length of sequence needed for reliable dating increases as the distance between sites increases and the number of trees forming each chronology decreases.
