An interdisciplinary study of the filling of a Roman well is presented. Constructed shortly after 78 AD (dendrochronological date of timber), the well was used as water supply for a Roman villa rustica until the 3rd-4th centuries. Identification of botanical macro remains, pollen, chitin fragments of beetles, and bones of small mammalia and domestic animals gave a picture of the environment around the villa.
