Abstract
An experimental method for separating oil paintings on paper from plywood auxiliary supports is described. The paintings are given a porous, non-aqueous facing of Beva 371 and cheesecloth, wetted with deionized water, and rolled off the boards. The original paper support is then washed, deacidified, lined with Japanese paper, and mounted on a Hexcel sandwich with ragboard skins.
