The treatment of delaminations requires three operations: penetration of the consolidating adhesive between the delaminating layers; Release of tensions within them; and reattachment of the paint to its previous support. Consolidation of two delaminating paintings, one of them severely damaged by fire is described in detail. The consolidating adhesive was Beva 371. Low viscosity and good wetting properties make beva well suited for the treatment of delaminations. Beva's chemical stability and strength assure effective, long lasting bonds. Its softness and elasticity prevent damage caused to the painting by other strong adhesives.
