To provide more accurate pigment and dating analyses of ancient frescoes than ultra-violet or infrared ray methods can provide, the roentgenoemissiography method has been applied. This method can record on film the electron emissions from pigments. A portable version of the roentgenoemissiography apparatus was used on the Ateni temple frescoes Emissiographics allowed researchers to read crumbled and overpainted inscriptions, drawings under the paint which were altered by the artists in the final paintings, damages and losses undetectable by other methods.
