The weapons collection at Drummond Castle contains over 400 items. Most of the conservation work done on the collection has been the cleaning, consolidation, and repair of swords and scabbards. A standard procedure has been established: treatment of the metal, removal of lanolin coatings, application of rust solvent, mechanical removal of remaining rust, polishing, application of Incralac coating, application of microcrystalline wax coating, cleaning and repair of the leather (treatment with Wykamol, rubbing with Draftclean, repair of splits, degreasing, application of Pliantine solution, polishing with microcrystalline wax).
