New methods are described to treat contemporary paintings without touching or damaging their delicate surfaces. These methods can be reversed without difficulty or hazard to the paintings. The following three paintings were selected: 1) Karel Appel, oil on canvas, 129.6 x 195 cm., high impasto still softmvacuum lined without a membrane on a standard vacuum hot table, using a method which can be easily adapted by any conservation studio; 2) Enzo Cucchi, oil on canvas, 280 x 360 cm., very heavy impasto, which had suffered a 34.7 cm. tear, lined using a newly developed contact adhesive, Beva-Gel®, on Scapa polyester monofilament fabric; 3) Red Grooms, soluble crayons (pastel) on five sheets of heavy-gauge, textured artists' paper, each 264.2 x 152.4 cm. (total size 264.2 x 762 cm.) mounted with Beva® 371 Film and Velcro on a specially prepared support.
