The New York State Capitol Building has suffered from continuous leaking since it was first completed in 1897. The 1978 restoration included complete recaulking as well as a water-blast cleaning of the facade. The ready-to-use Sikaflex-1a polyurethane (a single-component polymeric adhesive sealant) is a fast drying caulk. Preparation of the tile and granite face for caulking is described. The caulk adhered well in the lap joint of the roof perimeter copper gutter, where previous caulkings washed out from the force of the rain.
