The course, offered by the Anthropology Department at the University of Pennsylvania, is described. The biggest problem in teaching a course of this nature is that physical metallurgy is taught without the proper foundations: the students have little hard science background. Elemental analysis is costly. Despite the nature of the research projects, there is little participation for the students other than polishing and mounting.
