Abstract
The course, offered by the Anthropology Department at the University of Pennsylvania, is described. The biggest problem in teaching a course of this nature is that physical metallurgy is taught without the proper foundations: the students have little hard science background. Elemental analysis is costly. Despite the nature of the research projects, there is little participation for the students other than polishing and mounting. The time constraints result in a great deal of pressure. -- AATA
