First point of discussion is the dichotomy set up by having archaeometry as a field to be staffed by scientists and archaeologists as a totally separate field. Criticism is offered that little effort is being done to introduce the scientist to the field. Discussion of archaeometry as service research and as pure research is presented from several points of view; some personal examples exemplify the difficulties inherent in either aspect. The relationship between the archaeologist and the archaeometrist at a site was perceived in two significantly different lights. Financial considerations are problems to be dealt with. The applications of archaeometry are not limited to the past but have useful ramifications for the present in industry, and in maintaining a record of the present.
