The importance of conferences in allowing exchange between archaeometrists and archaeologists is considered. One criticism suggests that archaeometrists are really just another sub-group of archaeologists, with a specialty in scientific techniques rather than a specific time-frame. Research will not be accomplished if there is the expectation of only certain kinds of projects receiving funding. The problem of funding of basic research and service research is not treated seriously by archaeologists in the field. Egyptologists have become more independent in their need for the services of archaeometrists because there has not been a supply of scientists available to meet their demands; for this reason, introduction to analytical techniques in the undergraduate curriculum is highly desirable. -- AATA
