Abstract
The restoration of the 13th-century city of Sukhothai in Thailand has attracted criticism from local citizens who believe that as religious monuments, the statues of Buddha should be completely restored. The art historians directing the project believe that statues should be restored only as far as original remains permit. Raising funds from local donors had been difficult until remodeled heads were attached to many of the Buddha statues. -- AATA
