The author deals with different aspects of textile conservation as observed and learned by working in various laboratories in England, Italy, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. He describes the different agents responsible for textile deterioration, and the delicate techniques used in the processes of conservation in those laboratories. He enumerates the results of his discussions with several scientists on the different important steps in conservation, such as soil and stain removal, removal of tarnish on silver, reinforcing fabrics, and use of bleaching agents. -- AATA
