This article represents a supplement to one particular section in my book The Manual of Braiding. This special subject is indeed so complex that to include all of it would have exceeded the scope of the Manual, which was meant to give a synopsis and not to dive into every byway. A recent discovery by Adele Cahlander, however, has prompted me to reconsider the subject.
