Abstract
Neutron activation analysis (NAA) followed by autoradiography was used to determine whether a gouache by Oscar Fristrom had been painted over a photographic image. Gouache media do not activate strongly with thermal neutron irradiation. It was determined that the gouache was applied to a photograph of the original oil painting. Autoradiography as a technique is explained, differentiating it from traditional radiography. -- AATA
