Abstract
Xeroradiography detects minor differences in the density of solid objects, picking up details seen neither in conventional radiographs nor by direct inspection. Xeroradiography, applied to the study of ceramic artifacts, provides information about object manufacture or construction, repairs, inclusions, and mold-produced features. A short explanation is given of xeroradiography and the principles of how it works. Clay objects were produced specifically for this test to determine whether hand-formed, coil-made, slab-made, and wheel-thrown objects could be differentiated. Unique designs of joins can be evidence of place of origin, period, or culture.
