Abstract
Hoards of beautiful bronze Astadhutu (eight-metal alloy) or Panchaloha (five-metal alloy) images have been found in India, especially in Gujarat, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Unfortunately, many of these images have not been recovered through proper excavation and have subsequently changed hands many times. As a consequence, their geographical, cultural, and temporal provenance have been lost. This study was designed to acquire lead isotope data from ore deposits in west India to improve the quality of geographic attribution of bronzes produced in this region.
